The MirrieDancers Team includes artists Nayan Kulkarni and Roxane Permar, Project Coordinator Kathy Hubbard, Project Assistant Emma Blain and Lighting Engineer Duncan Turner. 

MirrieDancers is a Shetland Arts Development Agency (SADA) commission.  Shetland Arts was established as a charitable organisation in January 2006.  Its mission is to promote, develop and celebrate the distinctive art, culture and creativity of the islands, resulting in a Shetland which is creative, confident and connected.  



Emma Blain, Project Assistant

Emma is a textile designer who founded Amos with Claire Henry. They design fashion textiles, work to commission and produce a range of designs. Emma teaches at Shetland College UHI and is a founder member of Text-Isles, a contemporary textiles design group based in Shetland.

Kathy Hubbard, Project Coordinator

Kathy is the Arts Development Manager for Shetland Arts.  The Development Team undertakes a wide range of arts activities providing development opportunities for individuals, groups and communities. She is deeply involved in the development of Mareel, Shetland's new cinema, music and education venue.

Nayan Kulkarni, Artist

Nayan specialises in working with light and brings his extensive experience of realising large-scale public realm projects to MirrieDancers. One of these, Nocturne, employs on-going public participation. His practice involves collaboration with ligting designers, architects, urban planners and engineers.

Roxane Permar, Artist

Roxane brings local knowledge to the project and extensive experience of working with people of diverse backgrounds and ages.  She lives and works in Shetland where, since 1990, she has realised public art projects, exhibited regularly and initiated award-winning digital art projects for young people.

Duncan Turner

As an electronic and electrical engineer Duncan has worked exclusively within the professional lighting industry. In 2007 he set up Carbon Lighting which specialises in LED and high end lighting installations. The company is focussed on developing unique light products with low carbon ligthing technologies.
